JourneyCare is the largest nonprofit provider of palliative, supportive, and end-of-life care in Illinois, serving nearly 3,000 patients and their families every day – and of those, there are nearly 130 pediatric patients in care. The Foundation was founded in 1992 to help JourneyCare keep one of its most important promises: never turn anyone away because of inability to pay.
This past September, I lost my father to liver disease. It was something he’d been battling for years and while we knew the inevitable was drawing near, it didn’t make it any easier for my family and I. My dad has always been a fighter and even with death at his doorstep, he stayed with us for nearly two weeks longer than expected. It was during this time where the people of JourneyCare went above and beyond to not only give my dad peace and comfort but also provide the utmost support for my family and me.
That's why for next year's Catalina Wine Mixer in Chicago, we will be donating 100% of our proceeds to the JourneyCare Foundation. In my dad's name, we'll help other families in need to receive the same amount of aid as we did during our darkest hour. Join us on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Highline Bar + Lounge for another night of merriment while we toast to another great cause.
If you can't attend, please consider donating.
